As of right now I don’t love how the piece is going. I think I started painting too loosely because now I feel as if the figure looks messy. From far away the fabric looks fine but up close the piece just appears rough and patchy. There isn’t much I can do except start over and that isn’t something I’m interested in at this point. Additionally, the head also looks off to me. I adjusted the hairdo from the photo so that it would look like the top of a candle but now I'm unsure about the shape. The arms look really off to me too, besides the fact that the tops are misshapen to look more candle-like.
The only way I think I can save this is to embrace the melting-candle aspect of it. I need to make the texture seem purposeful and decide what to do with the background. I'm going to have to cut the stool she is sitting on out and I need a way to integrate the match sticks. While it's disappointing for my final piece to be something I don't plan on showing, I think I will just embrace it as a learning lesson.
