Project #5 Process Post

This piece went through a lot of changes as I wasn't sure how I wanted to approach the style. I didn't have an exact reference photo I could use and have the woman be Marilyn Monroe, so I thought about using collage for her face. I also considered collaging the background to more directly tie this piece to media and her specifically. Ultimately I decided against this and simplified it so that it was more ambiguous. However I might have sacrificed my message as the meaning is now less clear. Another thing I changed was the flower. The first time I did it I did not use a reference photo for the shape and kind of just cut random petal shapes (right image). While this was easier, it really bothered me as it didn't look quite right. So the next day, even though I thought I had finished, I ripped those off and remade a couple of the petals. I paid closer attention to establishing depth and getting the correct angles, and am now much happier with the final product.
