So far, I have only completed the contour drawing. I am proud of how proportionally accurate it is, which is all due to the gridding process. WHen I first started practicing working with ink I learned that mixing the brown and black ink and then watering the mixture down makes the ink wash the perfect shade. Doing large blocks to establish the different values is what I plan to do first. Since the artist used so many different materials, I think they built it up in layers. However, I am worried that the ink wash will erase my pencil lines as the water bleeds. That would be really disappointing as I spent so much time on the outlines. Similarly, while practicing with the ink, I learned how important it is to wait between layers. The different shades of ink easily blend together if the paper is still wet. Occasionally that will work to my advantage, but for the most part I want to work to avoid that.
