Artist Lecture Reaction Post

I think my biggest takeaway was the idea that anything can be a thread. I'm used to only doing paintings or drawings, not 3D work, but I find it really inspiring that I can turn any material into a piece of art. I don't have to recreate it, I can use it. Similarly, the idea that every thread tells a story reminds me of how every painting is a document, with the brush strokes telling the information. I have never really been interested in tapestries or art involving fabrics, but this new perspective makes it more interesting. I can implement this new way to approach materials into my own work, using the material as the inspiration and not just a tool to express an idea. I wonder how the connection with a 3D materials differs from the more passive way I interact with pencils or paint. Usually there is a tool between the artist and the work, a brush, pencil, or even a loom. But some of the things she showed were just using your own hands to weave the pieces together.

I like the idea that every painting is a document! Nice response.
