I thought this lecture was very different from the ones I have attented before. It was less about Dan Kanach and more about how an artists can make money or turn their passion into a career. I learned the difference between an artist and a designer. which I had never thought of before. I want to be an architect, so I will likely be a designer vs. and artist. A lot of the things he talked about, like being creative within constraints, applies to that career path. An architect is a way to combine math and art, while his job is combining art and technology. Of cource before that job he did a lot of other things, which taught me how the path towards art as a career isn't always clear. His message to keep participating is something I'm working on, if I don't think I'm good enough then I won't apply to things. I wouldn't have even applied to Maggie Walker if my parents didn't make me as I was convinced I wouldn't get in. I need to start applying to more art contests and other artistic opportunities. Opportunities is how he got to where he is, as making money off of art is hard. Clearly you have to be persistent, smart, adaptable, and manage your time effectively if you want to survive as an artist.
