We are halfway through this project and all I've managed so far is cutting out the paper to create the canvas. The background is supposed to be a sky, so I've tried to make the edges look like clouds. The figure is a child, holding their hands behind their back. One issue I've had so far is deciding how to paint them. I like the idea of a silhouette but I also need the hands to be visible instead of completely not depicted in the black. Right now I'm thinking of making the edges totally black and then just shading on the hands part (which is not what is pictured above) so people can see it. Right now I do not like how the figure is looking, but I painted that in 10 minutes so I can easily redo it. Another thing I'm worried about is whether I should add 3D clouds to the middle too. The clouds are going to be connected to the child's hands with string, so it makes sense for then to stand out. I'm just concerned that it could look odd. The teacher goal I had was to research watercolor techniques so next class I will do that before I paint.
