This project is actually a continuation of my last project because I did a process critique. What made this piece ambitious was the use of the laser cutter instead of just cardboard and paper. Because we traced hand drawings, the sizing was guessed for each layer, meaning that the pieces wouldn't fit exactly. When building this, I had to improvise a bit and almost collage it together. My main concern is how busy the piece looks, and I haven't even added color yet. I want to include a dancing figure but am unsure of where they could even fit. During critique we talked a lot about incorporating surrealism, so I could do a mini figure in order to fit it in. I'm not sure that I love that idea and would rather just make the figure be in a very interesting position. I'm also playing around with the idea of a giant figure peeking in, like having a giant hand wrap around one of the posts. Another thing I'm struggling with is the style. For my home project I went more realistic, but I think that could be a huge challenge with this piece for a couple reasons. First of all, there is a lot going on and the reference picture isn't the best, second I'm not sure how to pull that off if I'm using watercolor and acrylic paint and pastels. What could be interesting is if I do realism but only in a certain area of the painting, so for example all the posts are realistic or only the left side of the piece or only the foreground. I just have a lot of decisions to make for this piece.
